Week 40 of my Project 365 is in the books. I can’t believe we are only 12 weeks away from finishing out this year!
This past week was exciting because my husband was on vacation for several days in a row. My son had a long weekend from school, and our original intent was to rent a cabin in Oklahoma. In the end we decided against it because the baby wouldn’t be able to do anything fun like hiking or kayaking or bicycling. Plus, we went back and forth over the decision until the choice not to go was basically our only option. Instead, we filled our long weekend with fun activities such as visiting the Perot Museum, ordering in sushi and watching a movie at home, seeing my grandparents, a big bicycle ride at Bear Creek Park, Top Golf, soccer, watching college football, and sipping margaritas on the patio of Joe T Garcia’s. It is quite rare for my husband to be home on a weekend, so it was really enjoyable to go into the weekend knowing he would be off and being able to count on his presence. Thus, we did a lot of stuff in a short amount of time. I think we all had a ton of fun, but are about ready for school to start back up again tomorrow and for the routine to shift back into place.

So, the OG school calendar said it was a half day on Friday, but apparently I missed the memo that a different calendar actually got adopted from the one that was proposed last spring. So, I fully anticipated H having a half day on Friday and we planned a family outing to the Perot Museum. I found out the day before that H did not in fact have a half day, so we made him play hooky and went to the museum anyway. It was the first Perot trip for all of us, and I am so glad we went on a non-crowded weekday. There’s not much a I hate more than a people zoo, so it made my heart happy to be able to enjoy this outing without having to check my introversion at the door. We stayed for four hours and skipped Baby J’s naptime, but everyone was having so much fun we hated to leave. I initially felt really bad about making H miss a school day, but I figure he learned enough at the museum to make up for it. Plus, he’s a pretty smart cookie anyway so I am hoping he will survive skipping school.
