Your DFW baby photographer had a fairly eventful week. We fit in a visit to Chuck E Cheese, one bout of the stomach virus (me thinks related to Chuck E Cheese), a kindergarten field trip, a special Mother’s Day dinner, two afternoons of swimming and a visit from Paw Paw. Clearly, not all of that made it into my Project 365 this week, but we definitely felt busy.
I think my boy only has two weeks left before he starts having a whole bunch of half-days and then school is out for summer. Mother Nature seems to think it it summer already, and I broke the seal on swimming this weekend. I was solo parenting this weekend, so I wrangled both kids like a boss. The baby actually LOVED swimming, despite his initial protestations. On Sunday afternoon he stayed in the pool for a solid hour. I was impressed, and am so glad that he is a water baby. Also, a pat on the back to me as I’ve moved past the hurdle of taking both kids swimming by myself. That’s kind of a milestone for a mom with more than one kid. I guess I did it last year, but my skills atrophied over the winter and I knew getting into a groove would be a challenge, but something that had to be tackled eventually. Anyway, with all the swimming we did it felt like a precursor to summer.
Baby J was only 2 months old when my son started kindergarten. He was basically a lump. Now he is 11 months old, a crawler and a cruiser…probably going to start walking before too long. He is mobile, vocal and has a personality this year. I am curious (and nervous!) about juggling both children this summer through activities and swimming. With a 5 and a half year age gap between them, I feel scared about depriving my eldest of some of his usual “big kid” activities because of the baby. And I feel like the baby is going to suffer from being carted around to a ton of “big kid” activities. A new adventure awaits, and if any of you have age gap babies I’d love to hear some words of encouragement.
Okay, enough rambling and on to my project from last week:
DFW BABY PHOTOGRAPHER | WEEK 19

We have this mason jar at home, and whenever H does a particularly awesome job at life, he gets to put a lima bean in the jar. It takes about 2 months for him to fill the jar, on average, and it’s a great motivational tool for us. When the jar is full, he gets to pick a special thing to do. This time, he chose Chuck E Cheese.

Baby J’s first experience playing with the water table. He loved it! #waterbaby

Remember that trip to Chuck E Cheese earlier in the week? Well, fast forward two days later and this dude puked all over his bed in the middle of the night and had to stay home from school. I blame the Mouse. Thankfully, no strep or anything, just a quick 24 hour tummy bug. It’s not often that this guy takes a nap, so I had to snap a picture. So precious!

The husband had a multi-day trip over Mother’s Day weekend, so he decided we should celebrate early by going out to dinner as a family. I think that was only the second or third time since baby J has been around that we took both kids to dinner. While the food was yummy, and I appreciated the gesture…I am not sure why people enjoy taking their kids out to eat. It’s like you pay $40 just to be in a constant state of stress over the baby reaching for salt shakers and glassware. No thanks.

Broke the seal on swimming. A boy and his dolphin, looking regal. The tongue sticking out completes the package.
