Last week was a whirlwind for this DFW baby photographer. Baby J turned one on June 12th, so we had a fun day of playing, eating Mexican food and enjoying cupcakes to mark the occasion. Then, over the weekend, we had family in town and hosted a larger celebration. My older son was supposed to be attending Boy Scout camp all week, thus giving me a bit of free time to clean the house and prepare for our guests, but, long story short, some things happened and he was not able to go to camp after all. That meant I had both children underfoot the entire week, and I definitely felt every bit of Week 24.
The good outshone the bad in considerable measure though, as we were so excited to celebrate our baby boy’s first birthday. He even took a few steps last week, so I’m curious to see if he can string some steps together in the coming weeks and graduate to full fledged walker. Eeek!!

The birthday boy’s true first birthday! We kept it simple with a cupcake after dinner, and it was definitely a hit. I also marked the occassion with official first birthday portraits, a cake smash and his “Year of Judd” project.

Holden is a little upset that his brother is one year old. He keeps saying he wants him to stay a cute baby forever. In the days following Judd’s birthday, Holden insisted on feeding him his bottles.

Getting ready for company. Put the husband to work washing the windows. He was supposed to be on a trip all week, but some things changed, and he ended up being home just in time for me to use his services.

Big brother may have been just as excited as Judd to dig into that cake.

Holden had so much fun over the weekend. He had grandparents on both sides in town, and his aunt and uncles over to visit both Saturday and Sunday. In addition to too much yummy food and cake, there was A LOT of swimming. Holden absolutely loves being tossed in the air in the pool, but he needs a willing accomplice to make that happen. Uncle Chad to the rescue.

Oh, ice cream truck. The bane of my Monday nights. The ice cream truck shows up almost every Monday in the spring and summer, and my child goes crazy every week begging for a treat. The problem isn’t the treat itself, but the fact that the ice cream truck doesn’t roll around until 8pm–at which point this boy has been in bed for half an hour. Add in the fact that the truck happens to stop right outside his bedroom window, and it’s impossible for him not to wake up demanding a treat. I always say ‘no’ and send him back to bed in tears. It’s kind of a ritual. This week, the truck stopped by early, and although the boy was bathed and in PJs, he was technically still awake. So, I relented and allowed him to have an ice cream cone this one summer evening. He was the happiest boy you have ever seen. You’d think the kid never ate a treat in his life. Oh wait, he spent the entire weekend gorging on Chic Fil A, hamburgers and birthday cake.
