A year of laughter, a year of fun, this little boy is turning ONE!

This DFW baby photographer is celebrating an important milestone today–our little baby J is one year old! I have captured these monthly milestone photos over the past year, and it is so much fun to see them altogether. It really is amazing how quickly babies go from little squishy, helpless lumps to having a personality and ideas of their own.

I also confess that I’m really glad these monthly photo shoots are over. As fun as it is to have this to look back on, things were getting kind of wild with our sessions. This little guy is a mover, and keeping him on the backdrop for even 5 seconds to snap a decent photo was proving a major hassle.

Everyone in our house is feeling bittersweet over this birthday. We are so glad Baby J is growing and developing, yet the passing of time means that he is not really a ‘baby’ anymore. He is probably going to take his first steps soon, and then he will graduate into toddler-dom. My six year old has been saying he doesn’t want Baby J to grow up, or that he at least wants us to have another baby so we can have a fresh baby in our house all the time. Sorry dude, that ship has sailed and we must treasure every moment knowing that this is the last babe in our home.

DFW Newborn Photographer |Nursery Reveal

This DFW Newborn Photographer is so excited to welcome our new little baby. The countdown is definitely on as there are only 38 days left until my due date. I’m thinking this little one will be evicted about a week early as his brother was over 9lbs and I am pretty sure that my doctor is on-board with me not having to birth an oversized, overcooked turkey again.

Anyway, we are making all the final preparations in our house and I realized I never officially posted nursery pictures! I’ve had to step back tremendously from my newborn photography business during this pregnancy, and I know that the coming months I will be in maternity leave mode. So, expect what you do see from me in the weeks and months ahead to be mostly personal. I hope that’s okay though because I am a newborn photographer after all, and there will be a newborn joining our family so I think it relates.

BABY BOY NURSERY REVEAL

We moved into this house three years ago, and since that time this room had remained virtually untouched. The walls were an unsightly burnt orange, and we used this as our junk storage area. You know, kind of like how people have a junk drawer except we had an entire room of junk. It saved time going back and forth to the attic with a lot of the baby stuff my older son had outgrown. That’s my justification.

See….I told you it was a disaster zone.

Once we found out Baby Parker’s gender (another boy!), it was time for a fresh coat of paint and to get in high gear by cleaning out this room. The walls are painted with Benjamin Moore’s Crème de mint (lightened by 50 percent)—such a drastic and airy change from the orange!

All the furniture is reused from my older son, with the exception of the rocker and ottoman pouf. Dark furniture was really “in” six years ago when I decorated, so that’s what I had to work this time. I was hoping for more of a light and bright nursery, and I think the nearly white paint and neutral bedding really helped with that.

I added a few decorative accents to the hutch, some artwork above the crib and diaper changer and there you go—nursery checked off the list.

Also, a big shout out to my husband for doing all the painting, hanging of art, moving furniture around, hanging and steaming curtains and bedding, etc. He was the muscle behind this entire operation. He also did a fantastic job making custom built-ins for the closet. I wish I had some photos of that, but alas I forgot to nab some. Although, I did manage to get some behind the scenes pictures of the hubs and my boy painting the room and then assembling the crib:

I am so pleased with how our little guy’s nursery turned out. It feels so peaceful and tranquil in there at the moment. I know that’s all about to change once he actually arrives, but for now I like to peak my head in that room and just soak it all in.

Hey y’all! Life has been good for this DFW newborn photographer. My husband was home multiple days in a row last week, including the WHOLE weekend, which is pretty fantastic. My son was at school for a few days, so it was just me and my partner in crime a handful of times, and we got so much accomplished around the house. The big kitchen/laundry room tiling project is finally complete (total credit to the hubs on that one as I didn’t do anything except help with dust cleanup). I’ll post pictures soon. I also caught up on editing my DFW newborn photos, and now I’m just trying to get as much done as possible in the remaining days where my kiddo is at school before summer vacation.

131/366: A splashpad visit to burn off energy after Taco Tuesday. I love how the splash pad is only about 3 minutes from our house—it is always a hit with the little one.

132/366: I had to drop off my bridesmaid dress at the tailors in Southlake, so we couldn’t leave without visiting the pond and water feature. Again, this boy is obsessed with water, fountains, waterfalls, etc. I am not sure if that classifies as normal behavior, but it’s his thing so we always make time for watching water fountains.

135/366: Saturday was such a busy day! We started by attending a birthday party for my son’s classmate. It was at an indoor water park and he tried his first big-boy water slide! He absolutely loved it and went down the slide probably 20 times. I see a great time at Hawaiian Falls in our future this summer. The only downside to the morning is that I neglected to bring my camera– wahhhh. I did have my phone though, so I got some of the conqueror posing with his slide conquest.
Later that afternoon we drove over to Graham for a couples shower held for my sister and future brother-in-law. The shower was hosted by some family friends of my sister’s fiancée, and so our side of the family got a chance to meet many of his family members. They had some great food (and wayyy too many desserts!!). Here we have photos of the future bride and groom, as well as a pretty photo of a flower in the hostesses’ backyard just because it’s fun.

136/366: Planted some carrots and zucchini in the backyard. We used to have a legit garden at our old house, but there is so much landscaping to take care of at this house that I just can’t see myself adding a veggie garden to the list. Instead, we are doing a little container veggie gardening to test the waters.

I was so excited to have Baby H in for her newborn photo session yesterday at my residential studio in Roanoke/N. Fort Worth. I first met her family back in August for a maternity session, and I always happily anticipate meeting these little babes.

Something must be in the water because the last month has been a boy-fest, and I was eager to bring out all my girly goodies to use for this babe. Mom requested a palette of pink, creams and grays, and I don’t think it’s any secret around here that I am a lover of soft, neutral colors in newborn photography so this was right up my alley.

Miss H rocked her session. She was a sleepy baby and loved being on her tummy with her legs all curled up. In fact, when I attempted the side pose (the easiest pose of all time and the one that 99% of babies prefer) she actually lost it and that’s when I had to call her mommy in for some milk. Miss H just wanted to be a squish which made for some terrific setups, and I’m not complaining!

Baby H has a 5 year old big sister who joined in for a few sibling pictures toward the end of our session. It was a treat working with such a big kid who followed directions and made it so easy and fun to capture those important sibling shots.
