Happy (early) birthday to Baby K as he is about to turn 1 and become the latest graduate from my Baby Steps plan!

Mr. K has been a bit of a serious fellow for me throughout his sessions, but I was so happy that this time around we did a really early morning shoot and captured his sweet personality. Apparently, Mr. K is just a morning person.

I loved his little overall outfit and how it went perfect with the train depot in downtown Grapevine. After a few 1st birthday photos, we moved on over to a patch of grass so Mr. K could enjoy a breakfast feast of cake smash.

Trophy Club Baby Photographer |Miss M 9 Months

I met up with Miss M this morning for her 9 month photos. It was perfect timing to do them on the 4th of July given that Mom had recently purchased the most adorable little dress. We found a shady spot under some trees and Miss M did her magic with those baby smiles. I love that this time around she’s sporting a bit more hair and it’s coming in red–what a firecracker!

Trophy Club Baby Photographer |Miss E First Birthday

I’ve been meeting with Miss E every few months this past year for her Baby Steps sessions, and I can’t believe how quickly this little munchkin grew! I LOVE doing Baby Steps sessions–meaning short, 30 minute sessions about every 3-4 months during a child’s first year of life. They change so dramatically in such short amounts of time that it is really important and special to document. I always find it heartwarming but bittersweet whenever a Baby Steps kiddo graduates! You can see the progression below:

For her 1 year session, Miss E’s mom brought her to my studio and had her photographed in a darling yellow dress that is a family heirloom. Miss E’s grandma first wore the dress–then Miss E’s auntie and mom–now it was this little girl’s turn to share a part in history.

After getting some great shots in her dress, it was time for her cake smash. Miss E knew exactly how to treat that cake and her expressions are priceless. I often have children who will stare at their cake, not really sure what to do or afraid of making a mess. Often the parents and I will have to gently coax the little one to have a taste–or even smear a bunch of icing on them for photos sake. But, again, Miss E was beyond thrilled with this confection. I also give her mama major props for picking out such a pretty in pink and adorable looking cake.

Trophy Club Family Photographer |Curtin Family

Love this little family who I’ve been photographing over the past year since their daughter was a newborn. They were such troopers meeting up pretty early on a Sunday morning in Deep Ellum for some family photos. I try to keep family photos fun–nothing too posed or serious, but the truth is that as a Mom myself I know that getting everyone dressed in coordinating outfits and showing up in the AM is no small feat. But, it is so worth it in the end to have documentation of your family and how things change over time– I’m so glad that the Curtin family braved family photos with a 3 and 1 year old.

The location, Deep Ellum, is one of my favorites! I love the extra texture, color and vibrancy of the place. We did have to do quite a bit of walking, so by the time this session was over I think we were all quite sweaty, but I believe the photos speak for themselves.

Trophy Club Baby Photographer |Baby W 8 Months

Baby W is on the second part of his Baby Steps plan, so it’s been about 3 months since I’ve seen him. They grow up so quickly–especially when I see these little babies every few months during the first year of life and it’s just like warp speed how much they change in such a short span of time. Can’t wait to meet up with him again in a few months for his 1st birthday photos!

For this session, Mom and Dad met me at Lake Grapevine on an early Saturday morning. It was nice and quiet and we were pretty much the only ones around, so super peaceful atmosphere. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been to that lake and had it be so quiet and tranquil. Baby W had a cute little beach towel, sandals, his pail and shovel and beachwear for his photos. Love the creativity and a great way to document his first summer. Mom even put a little sunscreen on Baby W’s nose for our final set of photos, and I think that image speaks for itself.

Trophy Club Newborn Photographer |Baby E

Baby E showed up to my studio all snuggled up and sleepy in his carrier so I knew he was going to be an angel baby for his photos right from the start. In fact, after a feeding and some settling down time, Baby E was a super champ—sleeping through all sorts of posing and being moved around from blanket to basket to bucket.

He really LOVED being into the tightest little baby ball on his side. I was able to get him on his belly for a few shots, but for the most part he was so content and precious looking curled up in a ball that I really felt bad forcing him to go outside his comfort zone.

Mom and Dad brought along some fun props–including baby hockey skates and a hockey stick! I’m also in love with Baby E’s little bow tie–he looks like such a gentleman.

Trophy Club Child Photographer |A Tale of Two Brothers

I met these two brothers last weekend for a photo shoot primarily of Big Brother (Mr. A) to commemorate his recent birthday–but of course anytime you can get two young boys to dress up, then that’s an occasion to get some sibling photos in as well!

Both boys were just incredibly sweet and well behaved. It may have helped that we had grandparents and mom and dad present to keep everyone in line, but in all honesty these two little guys were pretty much angels through an entire hour. That’s a tall order for a 6 and 2 year old.

During sibling photos, Mr. A was precious with his younger bro. He would give him kisses, hugs, put his arm around him–I didn’t even really have to pose the boys because they were just naturally so kind to each other. It took Mr. A a bit of time to warm up for his own photos, so there are some great smile pictures tucked in among a lot of serious faces. He was especially excited about finding so many roly-poly bugs at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens. It’s the simple things, you know?

Trophy Club Baby Photographer |Miss K 10 Months

Miss K is one of my “Baby Steps” kiddos–meaning I did her newborn photos, as well as her 6 and now 9 month photos. It is an absolute joy watching my “Baby Steps” little ones go through that first year–they change so dramatically just in the few months between our meetings. In fact, Miss K is already standing solo really well at 10 months, and I have a sneaking suspicion that she’s going to be an early walker! Get ready Mom and Dad…

One thing I adore about this little girl is her hair. When she visited my studio around 6 months she basically had a full head of gorgeous brown hair. Now at 10 months she was easily able to wear pigtails and have actual bows in her hair. That’s quite an accomplishment for a little one. In fact, my son is 2 and a half and he probably has half the hair of Miss K! I’m sure her momma is getting compliments all the time.

I first fell in love with photography over lifestyle images. I absolutely adore the every day, normal things that really add up to make all of our lives unique and yet so similar. My husband is a big iphone photo-taker, but that just isn’t really my style. I mean, don’t get me wrong–I do take photos on my phone on a near daily basis. But the quality is just so horrible that I can’t justify actually having any of those printed professionally. Sure, they’re great for showing on the computer or Facebook, but it’s important I think to have images of my son that are worthy of a photo album and yet still represent our “everyday” life. I know my parents have several of those albums–the pages filled with the obligatory “stand here and smile” in your 50s girl Halloween costume. But then there are plenty of photos of me and my sisters just hanging around the house, taken with a point and shoot camera that are actually of some quality. Those are the images I look back on and see my whole life through. That’s why I try and use my big-people camera at least 1-2x a month to capture everyday parts of our family life.

This month I grabbed the camera on a gloomy Saturday morning to document the fact that my son currently has an obsession with peaches. Every meal he requests peaches. Every snack he requests peaches. I’m pretty sure this is just a phase–like when all he wanted to eat was cauliflower. But still, it will be so nice to look back on our memories and be able to see that first, juicy bite and the thrill in the little dude’s eyes over something so simple as a summer peach.

Here’s my latest newborn photography ad for “The Bump” magazine D/FW. If you don’t know about “The Bump” already, they are a fantastic resource for moms and moms-to-be on pregnancy and babies. Other than this ad, all of my marketing comes from word of mouth from my lovely clients!

I get a chance to review and make changes to my ad every few months, and this time I have this little dude as my model. He was just snug as a bug during his photos and I love this one in particular.
