*All Images Shown were taken by H. Parker Photography. Posing setup done by Silver Bee Photography* I love my job as a Ft. Worth newborn photographer! So, I can’t tell you how excited I was to have the chance to expand my skills this past week as I was mentored by the amazing Hillary with Silver Bee Photography in Austin. There are so many workshops out there to choose from, but I had Silver Bee at the top of my list because her images are classic, timeless and are a great match for the style I currently strive for. On Day One, Hillary showed me her techniques for soothing little ones and we worked almost entirely on the bean bag (at my request!). Our first little girl of the day was such a little doll. She had some fussy moments, but Hillary is a great talent at soothing and she was able to demonstrate several bean bag poses for me with our morning model. I enjoyed seeing Silver Bee Photography in action as she got our first baby in a very snuggly wrap and was able to capture a few wide-awake shots. This is something very challenging—even with a baby that is calm and awake, it is very unusual for a young infant to make good eye contract for photos. We lucked out though and this is one of my favorite shots: I was totally swooning over Silver Bee Photography’s setup for her tie-backs, bonnets and wraps!! She has been in the newborn photography game for awhile, so her collection is quite vast. I was so jealous of all her goodies, and I confess that I went back to the hotel on night one and might have gone on a mini Etsy shopping spree for some extra accessories to add to my own prop closet. On Day Two we had the most handsome, squishy baby boy to work with. He was zonked out from the moment he entered the studio, so I was able to watch Hillary transition through several poses. I was also able to work through a pose or two myself, but I am definitely looking forward to hosting a model call in the near future so I can really perfect some of the transitioning skills I learned. Another thing I really enjoyed was getting to try out Hillary’s macro lens! I’ve had that lens on my wishlist for a year now, but this was the first time I actually got to use one myself. It is such a fun, artsy lens and lets you capture the little details like cutsie baby toes: Again, I can’t say enough what a lovely time I had and how much I gained by attending this workshop. I feel it is so vitally important to always grow with my photography, and my time with Silver Bee Photography certainly added to my newborn knowledge.
