Sunday was Mother’s Day, and I try not to let myself get overly excited about holidays in general, because so often my husband is called to work, and we end up celebrating on a different day than what the calendar dictates. That might sound pessimistic, but in my 9 years as a pilot wife I have struggled to accept that fate and live in that reality. It is what it is. With all that said, I am excited to say that our whole family was able to celebrate together last weekend, and it felt really nice.
I also wanted to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all my Mommy readers out there. As a DFW newborn photographer, I have the great privilege of meeting lots of new (and veteran) mommies, so an extra special shout out to all my client Moms, hope you had a perfect day with your littles.

124/366: Anyone remember these—they’re Scholastic book order forms. I used to love picking out books and then receiving them weeks later at school. I am not sure how this system still exists with Amazon Prime around, but I guess they help the school fundraise, so I occasionally let Holden order from them. He always loves going through the leaflets and making a wishlist of books. He can spend 30 minutes doing this activity, so it’s pretty awesome for all involved.
125/366: A game of chicken.
126/366: More tales from the grocery store. This time, our weekly Aldi excursion.
127/366: My boy is 4 years old, so he still needs a little help from Daddy when it comes to Mother’s Day. They got me these flowers a few days in advance, trying to surprise me.
128/366: Searching for one of those daytime/nighttime kiddie alarm clocks so maybe Holden can be convinced to stay in his room later than 6am. Our search was futile. I ordered one through Amazon Prime, and of course it is backordered until who knows when, so I guess we are getting up at the crack of dawn for the foreseeable future.
129/366: Mother’s Day! There were donuts for breakfast, church and then hanging in the hot tub out back and having a small family crawfish boil for dinner. It was really nice to have some plans on the books that we were actually able to follow through with. A big thank you to my boy (and his daddy) for all the food and fun.
130/366: Someone was excited when UPS dropped off a package. I guess he thought it was for him?? He was a bit disappointed to find out it was only some clothes.

My favorite piece of mail arrived over the weekend—a new Stitch Fix box!! I signed up with this service last summer (check out my previous fixes 
My main request for this box was shorts and dresses for the spring/summer. StitchFix sent me a pair of Dear John denim shorts in a previous fix and I definitely regret not purchasing them. Just like the last pair sent, these shorts seemed to fit me well. They are comfy, casual and the gray colors means they can go with anything. However, $58 for a pair of shorts seems excessive. I am willing to pay that for jeans because I know that I can wear jeans year-round, but shorts are only appropriate in a few situations. Plus, I just found a pair of navy shorts at Target last week for at least half the price. Do the Target shorts fit as well? Eh—it’s a toss-up, but at $25/each I can get two pairs of Target bottoms instead.
Another thing I’ve really needed to add to my wardrobe is spring/summer dresses. I love having dresses in my closet that can be fixed up for church or dressed down for everyday wear. This dress really fit the bill in that regard. I love the embroidered detail at the hem and neckline. I am such a straight-laced person, but I am totally drawn to folks who can pull off the bohemian look and the detailing on this dress is like sticking my toe into the hippie water. However, I did have some reservations about this dress. First—the color. I think every dress I’ve purchased in the last two years has been navy. Next- the waist. I am not a huge fan of unstructured waists. This is elastic, and while it’s uber comfy, I feel like elastic waists are not my friend.
Giggles. This was just a hard no. I’m not opposed to the pattern, but why the drawstring waist? I have a classic pear shape and I think it can be universally agreed that the potato sack tie around my waist isn’t doing any favors.
This jersey maxi is so comfy and soft. The back had the coolest cut-out, and I could cover it up with a jean jacket if needed. The color scheme is my preferred neutral. The downside to this dress would be the horizontal stripes. Again, I think if you’re a toothpick or have a more boyish figure then perhaps the horizontal stripe all over your hips is gonna be just fine. For me, that’s a deal breaker. Peace out Mitchel dress.
When I first saw this top in the box I instantly wrote it off. I know all the cool kids wear these baggy tops now-a-days, but I really prefer more fitted pieces. I make it a rule to try on everything, and I’m so glad I did because this ended up being great. Is it the most flattering thing I’ve ever worn—no. But, I like the pattern and crochet tie top. I also like that this can be worn with gray shorts, denim, white pants…really there are a ton of bottoms already in my closet that I feel pair well with this top. Plus, it is sleeveless which is a must in the Texas summer. For the spring, a layered cardigan can help on cool evenings.
