Mr. A & his sister Miss M were total troopers for their photo shoot yesterday. The first half of our shoot started in some gorgeous Christmas garb, but I’m holding back from posting any of those as sneak peeks so Mom can keep the unveiling for Christmas cards later in the year. I don’t know a lot of little boys that love being up at 8 am wearing a tie, but Mr. A rocked it and went above that offering up silly antics and faces to help get his little sister to smile. Like I said though–got to keep those a secret until Mom is ready to share.

After some Christmas photos, the kids changed into more casual clothes and we captured some beautiful end of summer shots with perfect morning light. It was great having Mr. A as a big brother helper–made my job so much easier and you can see how Miss M just lights up around her brother. Mr. A also got some solo shots on his own…and only had a little bit of reluctance about getting his photo taken–what boy doesn’t?

Miss S turned ONE this week! Can’t believe is that already 12 months ago that I did her newborn photos. That girl gave us a run for the money during her newborn session, but I will say that for both her 6 month and 1st year photos she was such a smiley little angel.

We ventured to the Dallas Arboretum for Miss S’s session, which was also a combo family session featuring her parents and grandparents. I love the Dallas Arboretum because it’s got such great shade at almost anytime of day–a huge plus for mid-August, but also a necessity when doing photos in midday. There is also an abundance of ivy, stonewalls, steps, benches, staircases, fountains—really a huge variety of setting and no way you could cover it all during a single hour.

Trophy Club Baby Photographer |Baby E 9 Months

Baby E is totally squeezable! He’s just got little rolls everywhere, and I love it!!

We visited the vintage train depot in downtown Grapevine for the 9 month portion of Baby E’s “Baby Steps” plan. I can’t believe he’s already 9 months–actually almost 10 months–and next time I see him will be for his big ONE!

Mom chose an adorable set of conductor overalls and even brought along a wooden train whistle to complete the theme. It was also great that Mr. E is such a happy baby and gave great, toothy grins through his whole session. It’s the middle of August and even if photos are taken in the morning hours things can get miserable pretty fast. So I’m always pleased with a little one warms up to me right away and gives those happy faces before we all melt.

Trophy Club Baby Photographer |Miss E & Miss A, 9 Months

This is the third time I’ve photographed Miss E & Miss A, and they are just as gorgeous as ever! I mean, sincerely…these little girls have some of the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen.

We went out to the Bob Jones Nature Center in Southlake for their 9 month photo shoot. It was a lovely morning, and Miss A was offering plenty of smiles and giggles but her sister really wanted nothing to do with me. With such beautiful eyes though I’m pretty sure Miss E could have given me the stink eye the whole time and still had great images. Either way, she may not have given me a big gummy smile, but I think it’s really precious when you can capture babies with that sense of wonderment/confusion/seriousness.

I also want to offer major props to mom and dad who didn’t have a meltdown over the sticker bushes and ant issues at the preserve. I’ve photographed at this location many a time and I will say this year has been the worst for prickly bushes and ants. The girls seemed to be unphased–in fact, Miss A kind of wanted to gobble some of the ants, but of course we didn’t let her follow through on that.

Baby C and her family were such a pleasure to work with. First off, their Dallas apartment is absolutely gorgeous and a photographer’s dream–great big windows with tons of natural light streaming in! Furthermore, mom clearly has impeccable taste as the family room and nursery were both so tasteful and homey. Plus, they’ve got a pretty cute new little bundle on their hands as well.

I’ve blogged about this a million times, but family lifestyle photography is one of my favorite things to do. I’m especially partial to lifestyle newborn photographs. They are so organic and capture those first precious moments as a family. I LOVE doing in-studio newborn portraits as well–don’t get me wrong–but there is just something about documenting the whole family together, on their own turf, that really makes my heart all warm and fuzzy.

Their little girl was so calm and alert, such a rare thing to capture in a newborn. In fact, there are so many lovely photos it’s been difficult to weed it down for a sneak peek.

We started this shoot with some family pictures, including Baby L with his 2 1/2 year old sister. The end results of sibling photography can be so precious, but it definitely takes some patience to get there–and a lot of bribery! After a few wiggly outtakes big sis was captured with a big grin about her little brother.

Dad and big sister packed up after family photos so we could concentrate on just Baby L. After a little cuddling he was all zzzz’s and ready for some great photographs. Mom brought a precious baseball outfit, as well as bat and a monogrammed ball to complete the setup. Love how that turned out! Baby L really got snugly during his session–there was even a smile captured!

I LOVE doing family/newborn lifestyle sessions. In fact, I just met Baby S at home this morning for a lifestyle newborn session in Burleson and had to post some edited images for the family.

Big Bro L was on hand, and that is always fun to capture some of those first moments between siblings. Big brother was happy to hold Baby S, and was really gentle with him actually.

My favorite thing about family lifestyle sessions is that it’s really comfortable for the family and can be low-key. I know in this instance Mom was sweating it a little because Baby S was needing a little extra soothing, and big brother had his wiggle-moments, but that is what candid photography is all about. Capturing those moments in their everyday beauty. And of course, we always get some gorgeous family shots by the time everything is said and done.

Trophy Club Baby Photographer |Miss L First Birthday

Miss L wins the award for pictures taken on the hottest day of the year (so far!). We were all a sweaty mess by the end of these photos, but who can care when you are working with someone so adorable?

Miss L was a bit unsure of me and the whole experience of being outside for her photos, so she didn’t give a ton of toothy smiles, but she did offer some GREAT expressions. Her eyes are just beautiful and show a lot of personality.

I think the best part was her cake smash. Miss L just dove right in and showed absolutely no hesitation. She was a big fan of the icing (aren’t we all?). Her mom even made the tutu and the rosette smash cake–that’s some talent, and I’m uber jealous.

Miss E is one of the absolute sweetest babies I’ve met. She did give us a hard time by staying awake for the first half of her session, but I really don’t think she did much crying or fussing—just stayed quietly alert when we were hoping she’d take a siesta. After finally shutting those eyes, Miss E was an absolute charm to photograph. Plus, I’m enjoying finally having some little girls in the studio after a long string of boys. We used bows, lace and soft colors–always such a beautiful combination.

I can’t resist sharing some photos from our recent family vacation to Orange Beach. We had a lovely time traveling with our good friends and their little boy, who is 1 1/2.

This was also a great chance for me to try out my latest lens acquisition–a Sigma 8-15mm f/2 fisheye! I took both my pro camera and my backup Rebel, but I ended up shooting almost exclusively on my Rebel just because I would hate to get sand in my pro equipment. So, the fisheye lens effect is significantly lessened on my Rebel/crop frame (excuse the technical jargon, but’s it’s for my photog friends out there). I know my images would have had that gorgeous fisheye effect with my usual camera, but again, in the end I just couldn’t stomach potentially damaging my top notch equipment. Anyway, here’s what a true fisheye effect looks like:

I was still pretty pleased with the results, but I really missed having my pro camera in the post-sunset hours. My Rebel just couldn’t get the job done with that low-lighting situation. Thankfully though, we had LOTS of sunshine during our trip to the beach and I was even able to get the settings together for my husband to take some photos of me and my son. That’s a tough job, because even if I get the settings right the hubs still has to get the focal point correct, and frame the scene how I want. We get in regular battles over this, but I would like to applaud him for his improvements over the past year. He’s learning 🙂

We spent the majority of our days playing at the beach, swimming in the pool and hanging out at the condo splash park. Holden really loved having the waves crash at his feet, and he loved making “sand soup”–a mixture of water, sand and seashells. We had a few activities outside the ocean, including a Nature Center, the Gulf Shores pier, lots of restaurants, a BIG splash park, bumper boats, go-karts and the zoo.
