I first fell in love with photography over lifestyle images. I absolutely adore the every day, normal things that really add up to make all of our lives unique and yet so similar. My husband is a big iphone photo-taker, but that just isn’t really my style. I mean, don’t get me wrong–I do take photos on my phone on a near daily basis. But the quality is just so horrible that I can’t justify actually having any of those printed professionally. Sure, they’re great for showing on the computer or Facebook, but it’s important I think to have images of my son that are worthy of a photo album and yet still represent our “everyday” life. I know my parents have several of those albums–the pages filled with the obligatory “stand here and smile” in your 50s girl Halloween costume. But then there are plenty of photos of me and my sisters just hanging around the house, taken with a point and shoot camera that are actually of some quality. Those are the images I look back on and see my whole life through. That’s why I try and use my big-people camera at least 1-2x a month to capture everyday parts of our family life.

This month I grabbed the camera on a gloomy Saturday morning to document the fact that my son currently has an obsession with peaches. Every meal he requests peaches. Every snack he requests peaches. I’m pretty sure this is just a phase–like when all he wanted to eat was cauliflower. But still, it will be so nice to look back on our memories and be able to see that first, juicy bite and the thrill in the little dude’s eyes over something so simple as a summer peach.

Here’s my latest newborn photography ad for “The Bump” magazine D/FW. If you don’t know about “The Bump” already, they are a fantastic resource for moms and moms-to-be on pregnancy and babies. Other than this ad, all of my marketing comes from word of mouth from my lovely clients!

I get a chance to review and make changes to my ad every few months, and this time I have this little dude as my model. He was just snug as a bug during his photos and I love this one in particular.

Baby H was a pleasure to photograph last weekend. I absolutely adored her little blue dress and it went perfectly with her complexion and the bright, greens of spring. It was also so nice to get some photos of Miss H with her mom and grandma–three generations all together.

Happy 1st Birthday to Miss R! She started her session off pretty happy, but as our tour through the Dallas Arboretum continued it became clear that Miss R was about ready to be done with me and my camera. Thankfully her Mommy and Grandma were there to help elicit some beautiful grins and smiles! You have to love the extremes shown here–just a perfect documentation of what it’s like to be 1.

Trophy Club Baby Photographer |Miss E & Miss A 6 Months

These little girls have grown so much since I met them as newborns. I am in love with their beautiful eyes and long, pretty lashes. So jealous! Also, mom picks some of the cutest outfits. I love how the girls are coordinating, but not super matchy-matchy. Plus, who can resist a good baby ballerina photo?

The biggest obstacle in a photo shoot with adorable little girls like this is simply getting both girls to be happy and adorable at the same time. Thankfully, we got some precious images featuring both of their smiling faces. I am also a big fan of their solo photos–these girls were just stinking adorable. Can’t wait to see them again for their 9 month session!

Oh my goodness–Mr. L totally gave his parents and I a run for the money! He showed up to the studio all warm, snuggly and sleepy in his carrier–but things changed quickly once he decided it was food time. After some milk, some cuddles and even a short car ride, Mr. L was ready for his photos. It was worth the wait though, as Mr. L was in zzzzz land for the remainder of our session and let me pose him so beautifully for his newborn session.

Mr. L is also one of my Baby Step babies–meaning I’ll get to see him again three more times over the next year–one of my favorite things to do as a photographer is document these little ones as they grow through that first year.

Mr. E’s mom chose to do a lifestyle session for his 6 month photos, and I can’t even tell you how happy that made me! While I love being outside in the beautiful weather and taking photos of little ones out in gorgeous flowers and scenery, there is something so precious and simple about a baby in their own home. They are so at-ease–playing with toys, eating snacks and hanging out in their own crib or play pen. Plus, it’s a fabulous chance to document your entire family–showing mom and dad interacting with baby in their own home, just like every day life.

There are so many wonderful images to choose from that I have had a hard time deciding what to prepare for a preview.

Trophy Club Child Photographer |Bluebonnet Mini Session 2014

After my bluebonnet mini sessions on Saturday I had my husband bring our toddler up to the Grapevine field for a few photos of his own. Clients are always asking if I have a million photos of my own child, and while I do have a lot compared to the average bear it still takes some work to capture something other than our average life. It is nice to put in the extra effort sometimes and have my little man dress in nice clothes and hang out in a beautiful location. I love doing lifestyle photos and around the home photos, but it is refreshing to get something a little out of the norm of him. However, most of the time these photo session experiments with my own son really bomb. He is so used to taking photos for me that none of the tricks work on him. Plus, he is a 2 and a half year old boy–in my opinion the absolute most difficult creatures to get photos of.

So, I had pretty low expectations for how this session would go. I laid out the clothes for my husband to dress the little dude in and gave them instructions on where and when to meet me. I would have been happy with just one decent image. Amazingly, Mr. Holden was in a fabulous mood and just wanted to ham it up! Combine my little ham with a gorgeous sunset and a perfect field of Texas wildflowers and I am one happy momtographer.
