DFW Baby Photographer | May StitchFix Reveal
Welcome to my May Stitch Fix review! It is such a fun day for this DFW baby photographer when I get a Stitch Fix box in the mail. I always love seeing what the stylist has in store for me.
I usually don’t schedule fixes every month. As much as I would love to, it is something I consider an indulgence and I typically only order them when the seasons are changing and I need to update a few pieces in my wardrobe. If you are a regular reader, you might notice that I just did a Stitch Fix reveal in April, so these two boxes were kind of scheduled on each other’s heels. I always have more going on in the summer, and my last fix wasn’t the best, so I am still in need of beefing up the wardrobe. Okay…it’s time to show off my box!!
Disclaimer: I may be a professional photographer, but I am used to being the person TAKING pictures, not being in front of the lens. Please excuse my general awkwardness as you view this blog.
THML Dejen Embroidered Top
I love the style of this top! I have a ton of embroidered pieces pinned to my board, so I was really excited to try this piece out. Sadly, I felt it was just too boxy for my shape. It was too big overall, and I didn’t feel like requesting a size exchange as I felt like the smaller size might be TOO small, especially if I wanted to preserve some of that bohemian, flowy vibe.
Verdict: Returned
Pixley Ashlend Knit Dress
So one of my requests for this box was a summer dress that I could wear to my sister’s rehearsal dinner in June. The rehearsal dinner will be at a Mexican restaurant that’s fairly casual, so I wanted something fiesta fun but still girly.
I will say that the A-line cut of this dress is really flattering for my body type. I knew I would love it the second I pulled it out of the box. However, the print is a little wild for my personal tastes. I actually don’t mind myself in the photo, but I am not sure how closely this piece aligned to my wishes for something along the fun fiesta lines.
Verdict: Returned
One Market Morie Textured Print Short
I really, really need shorts so I was pleased my stylist included these. She mentioned going with the lace and yellow short because it reminded her of one of my favorite stores, Anthropologie. I won’t disagree with my stylist there—it does remind me a lot of Anthropologie, but sadly these just weren’t my jam. I like my bottoms to be more neutral and versatile. My main job in the summer is photographing babies and chasing my 4 year old, who is home from preschool, so investing in $68 shorts seems like a good way to flush money down the toilet as I guarantee I would destroy these pretties in 1 day of my real life. Plus, given the unique nature of these shorts I had a hard time styling them with much else in my closet.
Verdict: Returned
Fun2Fun Toronto Bicycle Print Split Neck Top
Very lightweight, sleeveless top. I love the fun print. It isn’t necessarily the most flattering for me, but it works as a summer top that can be paired with skinny jeans, shorts or even a skirt. I liked the color scheme and the fact that I can pair this with lots of other items already in my closet.
Verdict: Kept
Skies are Blue Laurice Color Trim Knit Top
Here’s the thing, I specifically said in my note that I dislike hot pink and teal. So I don’t understand why I received a hot pink top. Stitch Fix is usually really good about stuff like that, so I was pretty bummed. I still tried this piece on, but it really isn’t something that’s my style.
Verdict : Returned
The Final Tally
So, there you have it—I kept 1/5 this time around. Overall, I consider this a disappointing fix because I really needed a dress and shorts, and was not able to obtain either of those through this box. However, I’ve had many great experiences with Stitch Fix, and it certainly beats having to go out to the stores and figure stuff out myself. With that said, I am going to try my luck again in June and see if I can’t finalize my summer wardrobe.
